Mark Rutherford is a vibrant 11-18 school on the north edge of Bedford. Our aim is to provide the best possible education for every child within the context of a caring and safe community. School life centres on the students and every effort is made to provide them with opportunities and experiences to further their development, to be the best they can be and to make a positive contribution to our school and the wider local community. A recent short Ofsted inspection confirmed that we are still a good school with very good behaviour for learning and an excellent Sixth Form.
We have a thriving extra-curricular programme across departments: STEM, Young Enterprise, Rutherford Racers, Music groups, Dance Company, Drama Clubs, Engineering Club, sports teams, Journalism Club, Sci-Fi and Fantasy, Junior and Senior Debating teams to mention but a few!
We set high expectations for our students so that they will achieve success and we provide them with a broad, balanced and personalised curriculum that will meet their individual needs.
Our Sixth Form students achieve excellent outcomes making us one of the best choices for students looking to follow an Academic route and we also offer BTEC Level 3 courses which have outstanding outcomes.
We value our staff – they are the most crucial part in building and maintaining a successful school. Departments are supportive and welcoming; induction programmes are provided for all new staff; there are on – going opportunities for development and we support staff to develop their strengths and to grow into promoted roles.
